Why is mobile browser targeting
important?
The latest mobile web browsers render well-formatted
websites relatively well. So why is it important
to create specialized mobile versions at all?
The average size and resolution of monitors for desktop
computers increases every year, just as Internet
bandwidth becomes cheaper and faster. With this,
designs for websites have gotten wider and more complex.
More information gets filled onto web pages each year.
Even though modern mobile browsers can shrink a very
large website to fit a small screen, and even give users
a convenient way to zoom into a particular area, this
leaves the user with lots of panning and zooming to read
the content of the website. Plus, complex websites
or websites with large graphics can take a very long
time to load on a cellular connection. Imagine,
for instance, a blog that scrolls down for 50 page
lengths -- that's no problem on a desktop computer, but
awkward on a cell phone.
